Friday in Florence
Today has been one of my favorite days in Florence so far. When I’m feeling culture shock or homesick, it definitely helps to go out and explore the city. Since we do not have class on Fridays, Victoria and I spent the afternoon walking around and shopping. It was nice to not have to do anything but relax. I’m also getting the hang of where places are located, which makes walking around much easier.
We started off the afternoon by going to Caffè Scudieri. It is a fancy little shop that is located right by the Duomo. Everything in the window looks so delicious and beautiful, so I knew that I had to go inside. I ordered a caffè (espresso) and it came in a fancy looking cup! It was delicious and I definitely needed the energy. The man working also gave Victoria and I a little frozen drink for free! I’m not sure what it was, but it tasted a little bit like a Wendy’s frosty. I will definitely go back to this place again – it has a great selection of treats and great service!
After getting our afternoon pick-me-up, we did a little shopping and walked around enjoying the city. While we were walking, I saw a funny little umbrella for sale that looks like the Duomo. I passed a little store called Twin Set, I don’t know what it is. I took a picture just for fun to show my twin sister, Sarah.
We walked through the Piazza della Repubblica, which is one of my favorite areas. This is where the famous carousel is located. It’s fun walking past it on the way to class, and I like getting to hear the music that it plays. This is also the area where a lot of expensive designer stores are located. There is also movie theater nearby, that is close to one of our campus buildings.

After doing a little bit of shopping, we walked across the Arno River. The Ponte Vecchio is very, very busy all of the time. I took a picture of all of the tourists so you could see how busy it is! All along the Ponte Vecchio there is beautiful jewelry being sold. This was my first time going all the way across the river, and we made our way to Palazzo Pitti. I am so excited to go inside and see the Boboli Gardens. I am going to go there next week when my sister Allison comes to visit! I’m so excited to see her!

Thanks so much for your postings. It makes me think about 1964 when I was a student in France, and my only form of communication to the U.S. was postal gram type letters! Wow- what a difference. Your blogs and gorgeous photos make me feel as if I am right there. I hope you are learning lots. I know you are soaking up great learning for the future. Have fun with Allison.

I like the pictures, it is neat to see the culture of the city in them. I love to look at your pictures!
The street with all the people looks pretty similar to the city here. The street performers in Times Square are…weird. Most of them are naked or nearly naked. Gross, I know! The weirdest thing to me is that families actually take their pictures with them.
